TONY DOUSSET (MARCH 27TH – JUNE 16TH, 2017)

Tony Dousset is an exchange master student from the the Aix-Marseille University (France), where he is studying Chemical Process Engineering.

During his three months of practical internship, he worked on the analysis of titania (TiO2) aerosols by Raman Spectroscopy. The target of this research is to determine the polymorphic modification and temperature of the dispersed particles.

Katja Franke (March 09th - August 09th, 2016)

Katja Franke is a Chemical engineering student from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany). Under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marcus Petermann and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckhard Weidner, she has been pursuing her Master's thesis as part of the research collaboration with the ARS Laboratory.

During her stay at the SAOT, she has been engaged in the Raman-based spectroscopic studies of supercritical drying and impregnation behavior of porous silica gels.

Maria Rosaria Di Caprio (January 17th, 2016 - January 29th, 2016)

Maria Rosaria Di Caprio from the University Federico II of Naples (Italy) is engaged in sorption thermodynamics and interfacial phenomena of polymer-gas solutions. Together with Professor Ernesto Di Maio, she was visiting the ARS laboratory for two weeks in January 2016.

Intern students within the RISE program of the DAAD (May - August, 2015)

Approximately 20 students from North Amerika and UK did their internship within the Rise student program and worked at different fields of research in SAOT. This Rise program is launched by the DAAD and the DFG and should provide undergraduates from North America and the UK the chance to make a summer internship at a German University.

Five students visited our workgroup, studying electrical-, biomedical- or chemical engineering at the University of Cambrigde, the University of Rochester, the University of Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania State University or the Worcester Polytechnic Institute. During their stay they supported us, working in the fields of SAS-process, microemulsions, aerogel drying, tissue differentiation and water spray characterization.

Ilka Selmer, M.Sc. (April 20th - April 30th, 2015)

Ilka Selmer (mid-right) is a doctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Smirnova's Institute of Thermal Separation Processes Group at the Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH). She is specializing on the "Modeling  of the drying processes in the production of organic aerogels"

During her stay at the SAOT she conducted Raman measurements during supercritical drying of protein-based Aergoels. The target of this research collaboration is on the determination of mass transport quantities during the extraction process.

Sara Campanile and Francesca Grimaldi (February 2nd, 2015 - April 30th, 2015)

Sara Campanile (mid-left) and Francesca Grimaldi (mid-right) are two exchange master students from Universitá degli studi di Salerno. They are studying chemical engineering and are working in the field of high pressure process machinery.

During their visit at the SAOT for three month they are working on the SAS-process. The target of their research is to visualise the molar fraction distribution and the zone of first particle generation in (2D) using an combined elastic- and inelastic scattered light setup.

Iolanda de Marco and Valentina Prosapio (June 13th, 2014 - July 11th, 2014)

Iolanda de Marco (left) and Valentina Prosapio (right) are two reasearcher from Universitá degli studi di Salerno. They are working in the field of high pressure process machinery.

During their visit at the SAOT for one month they worked on the SAS-process. The target of their research was to visualize the molar fraction distribution in the zone of first particle generation (2D) using an combined elastic- and inelastic scattered light setup.

Dr. Nora Ventosa (January 9th, 2013 - Janaury 12th, 2013)

Fifteen years ago a group of the Institute of Material Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) started a new research line in Molecular Nanotechnology focused to develop new processes using compressed fluids to prepare micro and nanoparticles of organic molecules. This research line coordinated by Dr. Nora Ventosa is today a technology transfer success story with several stable collaborations with private pharma companies and the recent creation of NANOMOL TECHNOLOGIES SA.

During her stay in Erlangen the work of Dr. Ventosa was related to the tenary mixture formation of water, acetone and CO2.

Elena Rojas (January 6th, 2013 - January 19th, 2013)

Elena Rojas is a scientist working in the field of molecular nanosience and organic materials. She is a member of the Nanomol group founded at the Insitut de ciencia de materials de Barcelona.

During her stay at the SAOT the work aimed to visualise the mixture formation in a tenary system of water, acetone and CO2. For that reason optical measurement techniques were applied to get an insight of the process.

Dr. Irene Rodríguez Meizoso (May 23rd, 2012 - June 21st, 2012)

Dr. Irene Rodríguez Meizoso comes from Prof. Charlotta Turner´s Green Technology Group at the Centre for Analysis and Synthesis, Lund University in Lund, Sweden. Her visit constitutes the beginning of a collaboration with the ARS laboratory and SAOT. During May-June 2012 research will be carried out with the aim to develop a quantitative method for solubility studies in supercritical carbon dioxide using Raman spectroscopy in situ.

Dr. Maria Giovanna Pastore Carbone (March 4th, 2012 - April 6th, 2012)

Dr. Maria Giovanna Pastore Carbone from Prof. Giuseppe Mensitieri’s group of Dept. of Materials and Production Engineering of University Federico II of Naples (Italy) is engaged in sorption thermodynamics and interfacial phenomena of polymer-gas solutions. Together with Dr. Ernesto Di Maio, she has been collaborating with the ARS laboratory since March 2012 in order to use Raman spectroscopy for the investigation of mass transport across phase boundaries and, in particular, of gas concentration profiles developing into molten polymers.

Dr. Salima Varona (September 2011 - open end)

Dr. Salima Varona from Professor Cocero's "High Pressure Processes Group" of the University of Valladolid (Spain) had been collaborating with the ARS laboratory during her visit at the Institute of Process Machinery and Apparatus Design (iPAT, Professor Schlücker) and SAOT starting in September 2011 until end of September 2013.

Dr. Renata Adami (several visits between 2009 - 2012 planned)

Dr. Renata Adami from Professor Reverchon's group from the Industrial Engineering Department of the University of Salerno / Fisciano (SA), Italy was visiting the ARS lab several times. The exchange between Italy and Germany has been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within an initiative to establish and to intensify bilateral collaborations.

During her first visits from June, 28th until August, 29th, in 2009 and in April 2010 she was engaged into the development of a measurement technique, which qualifies to observe the mass transport between the bulk CO2 and the injected liquid organic solvent at supercritical antisolvent process related conditions. This collaboration resulted in a joint publication:

During the current collaboration, which is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) within the VIGONI initiative in 2011 and 2012 for a total exchange period of 4 months, Dr. Renata Adami is engaged into the analysis of vapor liquid equilibria via Raman spectroscopy.

Dr. Enza Torino (6 months visit November, 2009 - April, 2010)

Dr. Enza Torino from Professor Reverchon's group from the Industrial Engineering Department of the University of Salerno / Fisciano (SA), Italy (now she is with the Center for Advanced Biomaterials for Healthcare - Italian Institute of technology - IIT@CRIB, Napoli) was visiting the ARS lab from November, 1st 2009 until April 30th, 2010. She was engaged in Raman based measurements to understand the functioning chain of the supercritical antisolvent process technology. The results obtained during her visit resulted in a joint publication.
